Proofing stick

A drawdown bar is a metal rod with grooves used to create uniform wet films on substrates through a scraping method. The depth of the grooves controls the thickness of the coating, enabling the rapid preparation of test samples in the laboratory for evaluating coating leveling, hiding power, and color effects. It is suitable for preliminary performance verification of inks and paints.
Selection
The selection of a drawdown bar should match the viscosity of the material to be tested, with wide-groove specifications chosen for high viscosity. Consider the flatness of the substrate; flexible bar bodies are recommended for curved substrates. Verify that the groove depth range covers the required coating thickness, and stainless steel material should be used for resistance to solvent corrosion. During operation, maintain a uniform scraping speed to ensure consistent film thickness.
