Needle electRode

A needle electrode is a slender metal probe that conducts weak current or potential signals by contacting the sample surface. It is used to measure surface resistance, electrostatic potential, or conductivity of materials. In laboratories, it is employed to detect the electrostatic properties of films, paper, plastics, or the conductivity of coatings. During operation, it must contact the sample and be connected to electrical measurement instruments.
Selection
When selecting needle electrodes, consider the surface characteristics of the measurement object. Use stainless steel electrodes for hard materials, and choose gold-plated electrodes for soft materials to avoid scratches. Match the electrode size to the instrument interface, with a conventional diameter of 0.5–1 mm. For high-humidity environments, select corrosion-resistant materials. For precise surface measurements, choose electrodes with a small tip curvature radius. Ensure the insulation layer’s withstand voltage matches the test voltage.
