GlossMeter for paints

The gloss meter for paints measures the ratio of the specularly reflected light intensity from the sample surface to the reflectance of a standard plate by illuminating the sample with a light source at a fixed angle. It is used to evaluate the smoothness and reflective properties of coating surfaces, and to monitor the appearance quality in fields such as automotive paint, furniture coatings, and industrial painting.
Selection
When selecting, ensure the measurement angle range covers 20° to 85°, and check that the instrument complies with ISO 2813 or ASTM D523 standards. Consider whether the sample size is suitable for the measurement aperture, and use certified standard plates for calibration. The stability of environmental temperature and humidity affects readings, and portable instruments are suitable for on-site inspections.

Articles

Gloss meter measures the surface brightness of packaging film.
This article introduces the principle and method of using a gloss meter to measure the surface glossiness of packaging films. The gloss meter quantifies the specular reflection capability of a surface in gloss units by measuring the ratio of reflected light from the sample to that from a standard plate.
Application of Gloss Meter in Gloss Measurement of Varnish Coatings
A gloss meter is used to measure the gloss of varnish coatings by detecting surface-reflected light to quantitatively assess the appearance of the coating. The measurement is based on the principle of specular reflection of light, commonly employing angles such as 20°, 60°, and 85° to correspond to different gloss ranges, and follows standard formulas for calculation.
Glossmeter 75-degree angle measurement for paper gloss
This article introduces the principle and method of measuring paper gloss using a 75-degree specular gloss meter. Gloss is defined as the ratio of the light reflected from the paper surface to that reflected from a standard reference plate, with the 75-degree angle commonly used for measuring medium to high gloss papers.
Determination of specular gloss: Selection criteria for instruments at different angles (20°/60°/85°)
Specular gloss is a measure of a material's ability to reflect light, calculated by comparing the reflected luminous flux of a sample with that of a standard plate. Three angles—20°, 60°, and 85°—are commonly used for measurement, corresponding to high-gloss, medium-gloss, and low-gloss surfaces, respectively.
