Overview
The LEEB LEEB230 Coating thickness gauge is an instrument that uses two measurement principles, magnetic Induction and eddy Current, to nondestructive detect the thickness of nonmagnetic coatings (e.g. chromium, zinc, paints, rubber) on magnetic metal substrates (e.g. steel, iron), and the thickness of nonconductive insulating coatings (e.g. paints, plastics, oxide films) on nonmagnetic metal substrates (e.g. aluminum, copper).
Features
1. Using magnetic Induction and eddy Current Measuring methods, suitable for a variety of substrate and coating combinations.
2. Automatic calibration zero point function, can correct the measurement error.
3. The upper and lower limits can be set to achieve over-difference alarm.
4. Equipped with USB Data transmission interface, can be connected with PC.
5. With voltage prompt and automatic shutdown function.
6. Adopt large-screen LCD backlight display, and the contrast ratio is adjustable.
7. Support two-point calibrating to improve Measurement accuracy.
8. Provide a variety of optional Probes to adapt to different measurement scenarios.
Principle
The instrument works based on the principles of magnetic Induction and eddy Current. For the nonmagnetic overlay on a magnetic metal substrate, the magnetic Induction principle is used to calculate the Coating thickness by measuring the change of Magnetic flux. For the nonconductive overlay on a nonmagnetic metal substrate, the eddy Current principle is used to induce an eddy current in the conductor through the high-frequency electromagnetic field generated by the Probe coil, and its intensity varies with the Coating thickness, and the thickness is calculated accordingly.
Applications
Coating thickness measurement of paints on magnetic metal substrates such as steel, plastics, rubber, enamel, enamel, anode film, chromium, zinc, aluminum, copper, tin, silver, paints on non-ferrous metal substrates such as aluminum, copper, zinc, tin, etc. Coating thickness measurement of insulation, plastics, rubber, oxide films, thickness measurement of chrome plating on copper, thickness measurement of coatings on non-metallic substrates such as printing circuit boards
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. According to the tested substrate and coating type, select the appropriate Probe and install it.
2. Turn on and zero-point calibrate on a homogeneous substrate without coating.
3. For higher accuracy, standard sheets can be used for two-point calibrating.
4. Place Probe vertically on the surface of the coating to be tested for measurement.
5. Connect to the PC through the USB interface to export the stored measurement data.
Notice
* Before measurement, the appropriate Probe should be selected according to the base material, coating type, expected thickness and the curvature and area of the tested part, and refer to the selection table.
* Probe should be perpendicular to the measured surface for measurement.
* When measuring, ensure that the measured area meets the minimum curvature radius and minimum area diameter required by Probe.
* For magnetic measurement, the substrate needs to reach a certain critical thickness.
* Note that the Ambient Temperature of the instrument is 0~ 40 ℃, and the relative humidity is 20~ 90% RH.
Pay attention to the battery voltage prompt and replace the battery in time.
