Overview
RDS 23 #L1000φ 10 is a wire-wound Applicator rod produced by RDS Company (founded in 1936) in the United States, which belongs to the classic "Mayer" rod. The product uses stainless steel 303 mandrel, chrome-plated surface, steel wire diameter is φ 0.58mm, total length 1000mm, effective application width 900mm. Mayer rod coating method has become one of the popular film methods due to its simple, accurate, uniform and economical characteristics, suitable for a variety of substrates.
Features
1. The brand has a long history: RDS has more than 80 years of experience in the development and production of Spreader Metering rods.
2. Spreader performance is excellent: the film method is simple, accurate, uniform and cost-effective, can quickly change the coating weight, film thickness range.
3. Flexible process: can provide Coater transformation program, suitable for a wide range of substrates.
4. Rich product line: provide wire winding, molding, smooth, notch, double winding and other types of Metering rod, up to 12 feet, support customization.
5. Wire winding rod features: sizes 3 to 75 (including half size), can be disbonded and re-wound to save costs, reduce waste, and no minimum cost and installation costs.
Principle
Wire-wound rods are formed by tightly wrapping a steel wire of a specific diameter on the mandrel. When Spreader, Coating is scraped or squeezed through grooves (cavities) between the wires. The size of the grooves (determined by the diameter of the wire) directly determines the thickness of the wet coating. Excess Coating is scraped off, resulting in a uniform, thickness-controlled wet-film on the substrate.
Applications
Coating, manufacturing window film, adhesive tape, release paper, photovoltaic film, wall covering material, special paper
Steps
1. Select the appropriate Metering rod model (e.g. 23 #) according to the desired wet film thickness (e.g. 58.4 μm).
2. Install the Metering rod correctly on the Spreader device to ensure its stability.
3. Spreader Coating in front of Metering rod.
4. Start the equipment to make the substrate pass under the Metering rod at a uniform speed, or make the Metering rod scrape across the surface of the substrate at a uniform speed.
5. Coating is transferred through the groove of the Metering rod to form a uniform wet-film on the substrate.
6. After the Spreader is completed, clean the Metering rod in time.
Notice
• Before use, please confirm whether the Metering rod model (e.g. wire diameter, rod diameter, length) meets the process requirements.
• When installing, ensure that the Metering rod is parallel to the substrate or support roller, and the pressure is uniform to ensure the uniformity of the film.
• During the Spreader process, pay attention to whether the characteristics such as Coating viscosity are suitable for the selected Metering rod type.
• After use, it should be cleaned thoroughly in time to prevent the coating from drying up and blocking in the groove of the steel wire, which will affect the next use effect and the life of the rod.
• The wire winding rod can be disbonded and rewound to save costs, but care should be taken to avoid damage.
• For higher viscosity coatings, consider using notched rods or double-wound rods to reduce clogging and lines.
• This product is a precision tool and should be kept properly to avoid bumping or bending.
