Overview
RDS 36 #L1000φ 10 is a wire-wound Applicator rod manufactured by RDS Corporation in the United States with more than 80 years of experience in R & D and production of Spreader Metering rods. The product uses the classic "Mayer" wire-wound rod design to form an accurate measurement gap through wire-wound to achieve a simple, accurate, uniform and economical film. Its specifications are steel wire diameter φ 0.91mm (corresponding to No. 36), main rod diameter φ 10mm, total length 1000mm, effective application width 900mm, suitable for Spreader applications on a variety of substrates.
Features
1. Originating from the American RDS brand, it has more than 80 years of professional production history and reliable quality.
2. Using the classic Mayer rod design, the Spreader method is simple, accurate, uniform, and cost-effective.
3. Provide the ability to quickly change coating weight and a wide range of film thickness, suitable for a wide range of substrates, good flexibility.
4. The mandrel is made of stainless steel 303, and the surface is chrome-plated to enhance durability.
5. Wire-wound rod design allows for disbonding and re-winding of steel wire, helping to save costs and reduce waste.
6. Can be customized according to specific needs, up to 12 feet in length.
Principle
The working principle of this wire-wound Applicator rod is based on the Mayer rod coating method. The stainless steel mandrel is tightly wound with a specific diameter of steel wire, and the gap between the wires forms the measurement cavity. As the Coating flows through the rod body, the excess Coating is scraped off by the wire, and the amount of Coating retained in the gap determines the final wet film thickness applied to the substrate. The wet film thickness is mainly determined by the diameter of the steel wire. The diameter of the steel wire in this product is 0.91mm (No. 36), and the corresponding theoretical wet film thickness is approximately 91.4 microns.
Applications
Coating, window film, adhesive tape, release paper, photovoltaic film, wall covering material, special paper
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. According to the Spreader process requirements, select the appropriate RDS Metering rod model (such as wire winding rod, molding rod, etc.) and specifications (such as steel wire number, rod diameter).
2. Install the Metering rod correctly to the designated position of the Spreader device (such as the Spreader head) to ensure stable installation.
3. Adjust the pressure or gap between the Metering rod and the support roller (or substrate) to control the Coating thickness (for types such as smooth rods).
4. Start the Spreader device so that the Coating flows evenly through the surface of the Metering rod.
5. The substrate (e.g. film, paper) passes under the Metering rod, and the rod body transfers the coating of a predetermined thickness to the substrate.
6. After the Spreader is completed, clean the Metering rod in time to prevent the Coating from drying up and blocking the steel wire gap.
Notice
• When selecting Metering rod, the model should be comprehensively considered according to Coating viscosity, required wet film thickness and substrate characteristics (such as notched rod or double wound rod can be considered for high viscosity Coating).
• When installing, ensure that the Metering rod is horizontal and stable, and the clamping parts at both ends (50mm for this product) need to be fixed firmly.
• During operation, attention should be paid to controlling Spreader speed, Coating supply and rod body pressure to obtain uniform coating.
• After use, the rod body should be thoroughly cleaned in time, especially the steel wire gap, to prevent residual Coating curing from causing blockage or affecting the next Spreader accuracy.
• The wire winding rod can be disbonded and rewound to extend the service life, but the operation should be careful to avoid damage to the mandrel or steel wire.
• For forming rods (Slotting rods), the grooves are easier to clean and less likely to clog than winding rods.
• Chrome-plated surface can prolong the life of the rod body, but it is still necessary to avoid scratching with hard objects.
• Can be customized through professional tools or by contacting suppliers to meet specific Spreader requirements.
