Overview
RDS 42 #L1000φ 10 wire-wound Applicator rod is a wire-wound Metering rod produced by RDS in the United States. RDS has more than 80 years of experience in R & D and production of coating rods, and its products are widely recognized around the world. This model Metering rod adopts the classic "Mayer" rod design, which controls the wet film thickness through precise wire-wound process, and is suitable for Spreader applications on a variety of substrates.
Features
1. Classic design: Using the popular "Mayer" rod design since the 1920s, the technology is mature and reliable.
2. Flexible and economical: Wire winding rods can be disbonded and rewound, helping to save costs and reduce waste.
3. Precise control: The diameter of the wire (in mils) directly corresponds to the rod number (42 #), which determines the theoretical wet film thickness of the coating (106.7 μm).
4. Durable treatment: The mandrel is made of stainless steel 303, and the surface is treated by chrome plating process, which enhances durability and corrosion resistance.
5. The specifications are clear: the total length is 1000mm, the effective application width is 900mm, the diameter of the main rod is 10mm, and the clamping length of 50mm is reserved at both ends, which is convenient for installation and operation.
Principle
The Working Principle of the RDS Applicator rod is based on the Mayer Rod (Mayer Rod) Spreader method. When the coating flows through a precision wire tightly wound on a smooth mandrel, the gap formed between the wire and the substrate determines the wet coating thickness transferred to the substrate. The excess coating is scraped off by the wire, resulting in a uniform, thickness-controlled wet-film on the surface of the substrate. The wet film thickness is mainly determined by the diameter of the wire (i.e. rod number).
Applications
Coating, window film, adhesive tape, release paper, photovoltaic film, wall covering material, special paper
Standards
The data did not mention specific compliance criteria.
Steps
1. Choose the appropriate rod number (wire diameter) according to the required wet film thickness.
2. Install the Metering rod correctly on the Spreader equipment to ensure that the two ends are firmly clamped.
3. Coating an appropriate amount on the substrate or Spreader head in front of the Metering rod.
4. Push or pull the Metering rod at a uniform speed and pressure to form a uniform coating through the wire gap.
5. After the Spreader is completed, use a suitable solvent to clean the Metering rod in time to prevent Coating curing blockage.
Notice
* Please confirm whether the Metering rod model (rod number, length, diameter) meets the current Spreader process requirements before use.
* Uniform traverse speed and stable pressure should be maintained during operation to ensure consistent Coating thickness.
* After the Spreader is completed, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the rod body, especially the wire-wound gap, to prevent the residual Coating from drying up and causing blockage or affecting the next Spreader effect.
* Please use a suitable solvent when cleaning, avoid scratching with hard objects, so as not to damage the steel wire or chrome surface.
* Metering rods should be stored in a drying and clean environment to avoid bumping and extrusion.
* The wire winding rod can be disbonded and rewound, but professional operation is required to maintain the winding accuracy.
* For high viscosity coatings, models such as molded rods, notched rods, or double-wound rods can be considered to reduce the risk of clogging.
