Overview
The TQC Sheen SP1560 digital surface roughness meter is a combination instrument that can be equipped with two different probes for surface roughness testing and Coating thickness testing respectively. The instrument offers a sharp tungsten carbide replaceable probe for surface roughness measurement, a hardened circular probe for Coating thickness measurement, a zero calibrated Glass plate and a leather carry bag for all items.

Principle
The instrument is placed on the surface to be measured by a planar base, the probe probes into and stops on the substrate, and the crest-trough value or Coating thickness value of the surface roughness is obtained by measuring the displacement of the probe.

Steps
Measurement asperity:
1. Press the on/off button to turn on the meter
2. Check that the correct tip is selected (sharp tip for measurement asperity)
3. Press the IN/MM button to select parameters
4. Place the needle of the gauge on the flat Glass sample (zero plate) and press the gauge down with the bracket until the base of the bracket stands firmly on the zero plate
5. Press the ZERO button to make the instrument read zero
6. Place the needle lightly on the sand blasting surface and press the base of the gauge holder firmly against the steel. Do not drag the instrument
7. Read peak and valley values
8. Perform 10 measurements at each desired location and determine the average as the surface profile
Film thickness measurement:
1. Press the on/off button to turn on the meter
2. Check if the correct prompt is selected (Round head is suitable for measurement Film thickness)
3. Press the IN/MM button to select parameters
4. Place the needle of the gauge on the flat Glass sample (zero plate) and press the gauge down with the bracket until the base of the bracket stands firmly on the zero plate
5. Press the ZERO button to make the instrument read zero
6. Gently remove a 8mm diameter paints from the surface. Try to remove paints without damaging the underground material
7. Place the needle where the paints are removed. Make sure the aluminum base is in the painted area
8. Coating thickness appears on the display
