Principle
The drawdown blade gap is controlled by adjusting the differentiator to achieve uniform film on a planar substrate. The ratio of wet film thickness to film blade gap depends on factors such as material properties, liquid viscosity, applied force, film speed, and film edge geometry.
Steps
1. Place the coating applicator on a completely flat surface of the Testing substrate and adjust the drawdown blade to the required gap (should be twice the required wet film thickness)
2. Pour a small amount of test samples between the front end plates of the film cutter and move at a slow and uniform speed of 1~ 2cm/s
3. Move the coating applicator on the substrate surface until the liquid is fully coated and remove the remaining liquid
4. Use wet film thickness gauge measurement when coating, adjust the gap until the desired wet film thickness is reached
Notice
• Wash with appropriate solvent immediately after use
• Both ends of the drawdown blade move in the groove, and the groove needs to be kept free of test sample material
• The differentiator occasionally needs to be repositioned, which can be adjusted and corrected by loosening the hidden fixing screw
• The wet film thickness ratio is affected by material, viscosity, applied force, speed and edge geometry
