GB/T 36878-2018
Determination of tear resistance for sealant

This standard serves as a guiding document for specifying the methods for determining the tear strength of sealants. Its core feature lies in categorizing the determination methods into three types based on application scenarios. These three methods respectively target the sealant material itself (bulk), general bonded assemblies, and structural bonded assemblies with higher requirements. The standard was developed by modifying and adopting the international standard ISO 19863:2016. The essential testing instrument required is a tensile testing machine (or universal material testing machine), which is used to stretch specific-shaped specimens (such as trouser-shaped or right-angled specimens) until they tear apart. For testing sealant bulk and certain bonded assemblies, the requirements of the national standard GB/T 529-2008 for the determination of tear strength of rubber are often referenced. Therefore, specialized specimen cutting dies may also be used when preparing standard specimens.
