This standard specifies a specialized method for determining the tear strength of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber when the finished product has a small volume or limited material. It employs a special miniature dumbbell-shaped specimen known as the "Delft specimen." The test requires a tensile testing machine capable of stretching the specimen at a constant speed. During the test, the specimen is clamped in the machine's fixtures, and the maximum force required to stretch the specimen until complete tearing is recorded. The tear strength is then calculated based on this data. This method is particularly suitable for quality inspection of products where larger specimens cannot be prepared according to conventional standards.
