Flexible cellular polymeric materials--Determination of tensile strength and elongation at break

This standard specifies a unified method for determining the tensile strength and elongation at break of porous polymeric elastic materials, such as foam rubber and flexible foam plastics, by stretching the specimen at a constant rate until rupture. The method provides a key basis for evaluating the tensile properties and deformation capacity of such materials. The core instrument for performing this test is a universal material testing machine, which is capable of precisely controlling the tensile rate and recording force and displacement. During the test, a dumbbell-shaped specimen is clamped in the grips of the testing machine and stretched at a constant speed. The equipment simultaneously records the maximum force sustained by the specimen at rupture (used to calculate tensile strength) and the elongation at rupture (used to calculate elongation at break).
