GB/T 14457.3-2008
Fragrance/Flavor substances - Method for determination of melting point

This standard specifies the method for determining the melting point of fragrances using melting point tubes. It applies to isolated fragrance compounds, synthetic fragrances, and fragrance products in crystalline or powdered form. It describes a classical capillary tube method, with detailed requirements for specific operations during the determination, such as the preparation of melting point tubes, drying and filling of samples, control of heating rate, and precise observation and recording of the temperature range from the initial to complete melting of the sample. During testing, in addition to manual setups involving melting point tubes, precision thermometers, and temperature-controlled heating baths (such as silicone oil baths), modern laboratories often use fully automatic melting point instruments or micro melting point apparatus that comply with the principles of this standard to perform the test. These instruments enable more convenient results acquisition through precise temperature control and automated observation.
