This standard specifies a general test method for determining the melting point and melting range of chemicals using the capillary method. It is applicable to substances with a definite melting point, as well as glassy states and multi-component mixtures with a melting range, within the temperature range from room temperature to 300°C. Testing instruments that comply with the principles of this standard mainly include manual capillary melting point apparatuses and various automatic melting point apparatuses (including micro melting point apparatuses). Among these, fully automatic melting point apparatuses use built-in sensors to automatically detect the sample melting process and record the temperature, while micro melting point apparatuses combine optical microscopy with precise temperature control, allowing direct observation of physical changes such as sample melting and deformation. These devices are all based on the core operations of the capillary method but enhance the automation and accuracy of testing.
