Methods for measuring the colour of coatings

This standard specifies a general method for measuring the color coordinates of coatings and calculating small color differences. Its core is based on the color difference formula in the CIE 1976 L*a*b* color space, which transforms color perception into numerical indicators for objective evaluation. The measurement method described in the standard requires the use of instruments such as spectrophotometers to measure the color of reflected light under specified illumination and observation conditions. This method is applicable to determining coatings that exhibit uniform monochromatic reflected light, including opaque coating systems that cannot completely cover the substrate, but it is not suitable for measuring coatings that are luminous, transparent, reflective, or have a metallic luster.
