Test of surface coating of furniture—Part 4:Determination of adhesion by cross-cut

This standard specifies the test procedure for evaluating the adhesion of paint films on furniture surfaces using the cross-cut method. The method involves cutting a grid pattern with specified spacing on the paint film surface and observing its peeling to assess the bond between the paint film and the substrate. The standard applies to flat, cured paint films with a total thickness not exceeding 250 micrometers. During testing, a specialized paint film cross-cut tester (also known as a cross-hatch cutter) must be used to make cuts on the sample. After cutting, pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is typically applied and peeled off. The adhesion performance is then scientifically quantified by comparing the results with standard patterns or using specialized observation equipment to determine the paint film's peeling grade.
