Printing Rod

The coating rod is a manual coating tool composed of a metal rod and wound metal wire. Its principle involves forming a fixed wet film thickness through the gaps between the wires, allowing the coating material to be spread evenly on the substrate by pushing. Its function is to simulate the printing and coating process in the laboratory, used for testing properties such as the hiding power and leveling of coatings. Applications include ink research and development, paper coating evaluation, and surface treatment of plastic films.
Selection
When selecting a printing coating bar, consider the substrate roughness; for rough surfaces, choose a larger wire diameter. Match the wire diameter specification based on the required coating thickness, commonly in the range of 10–200 μm. Pay attention to the bar material: stainless steel offers corrosion resistance, while carbon steel requires chrome plating. During operation, maintain a steady pushing speed, and clean the bar immediately with solvent after use. Store the bar by hanging it vertically to prevent deformation.
