Overview
ERICHSEN PIG455 Cross Hatch Cutter is a Coating thickness measuring instrument based on the standard wedge cutting procedure. It uses the destructive Measurement principle and is suitable for the Coating thickness Measurement range of 2-200 μm. The instrument is equipped with a measurement Microscope for accurate observation and calculation of Coating thickness.
Features
1. Standard wedge cutting procedure to ensure measurement accuracy
2. Measurement range covers 2-200μm, wide applicability
3. 50x magnification measurement Microscope
4. Portable design, weight only 0.4kg
5. Powered by 9V battery, easy to operate
6. Supply includes carbide cutter head, battery, leather case and other complete accessories
Principle
Based on the standard wedge cutting procedure, the coating is cut to the substrate at a defined angle. The triangular projection width of the cutting surface is observed through the measurement Microscope, and the coating thickness is calculated in combination with the cutting angle. For multi-layer coating systems, the thickness of each layer can be calculated separately, and it can be used for adhesion testing to evaluate the coating roll-up area.
Applications
Coating thickness measurement, adhesion testing, multilayer coating system analysis
Standards
AS 1580 Meth 408.1
Steps
1. Install No. 6 carbide cutter head
2. Wedge-cut the coating at defined angles
3. Use the measurement Microscope to observe the cutting surface projection
4. Read and record projection width data
5. Coating thickness calculated according to cutting angle
6. For multi-layer systems, repeability measurement of layer thickness
Notice
• Make sure the battery is fully charged before use
Maintain conformity at defined angles when cutting
• Microscope observation requires sufficient rays of light
• The cutter head is a wearing part and needs to be checked and replaced regularly.
• Clean the instrument in time after measurement
Store in a drying environment
