Overview
Ford viscosity cup (Ford Cup) is a standard test equipment for viscosity measurement of coatings, coatings and similar substances, usually used for quality control and research and development in the coatings and coatings industry. The Ford-4 #Ford viscosity cup has an outflow aperture of 4.12mm, uses an aluminum alloy cup body and a stainless-steelbeaker nozzle, and has a viscosity measurement range of 70-370cst. It is suitable for viscosity testing of coatings, paints and inks.
Features
Meets American Society for Testing and Materials standards ASTM D1200, D333, and D365.
2. The cup body is made of aluminum alloy, and the nozzle is made of 304 stainless steel, which is sturdy and durable.
3. The outflow aperture is accurate 4.12mm, and the measurement range covers 70-370cSt.
4. Capacity of about 100ml, design standard, suitable for routine viscosity testing.
Principle
The Ford viscosity cup is based on the relationship between the flow rate and the viscosity of the liquid. The typical structure is a conical cup with a fixed hole at the bottom. When testing, the cup is filled with the liquid to be tested, the cup is fixed upside down, and the liquid flows out through the small hole. The viscosity of the liquid can be assessed by measuring the time it takes for the liquid to completely flow out.
Applications
Paints, paints, inks viscosity testing
Standards
ASTM D1200、ASTM D333、ASTM D365
Steps
1. Clean and dry the Ford viscosity cup.
2. Inject the liquid to be tested into the cup until it is full.
3. Turn the cup upside down and fix it on the bracket, and place the receiving container below.
4. Release your finger or baffle to allow the liquid to flow out through the small hole at the bottom.
5. Use a stopwatch measurement of the time required for the liquid to flow from the beginning to the first interruption of the streamline.
6. According to the outflow time, refer to the standard conversion table or formula to calculate the liquid viscosity.
Notice
* Make sure the cup body, especially the flow hole, is clean and drying without residue before testing.
* When injecting the liquid, bubbles should be avoided to avoid affecting the measurement accuracy.
* Test Ambient Temperature should be kept stable because temperature has a significant effect on liquid viscosity.
When operating, the cup needs to be fixed vertically to ensure that the outflow process is not disturbed.
* Choose the appropriate Ford viscosity cup model (such as Ford-4 #) according to the viscosity range of the tested liquid.
* When measuring the outflow time, it should be accurately timed, usually at the end point of the first interruption of the streamline.
After use, the equipment should be cleaned in time to prevent the liquid from drying up and blocking the flow hole.
