This standard provides a unified technical specification for the detection of two key impurity indicators in lithium-ion battery cathode materials, systematically outlining methods for determining magnetic impurity content and residual alkali content. The standard specifies that magnetic impurities refer to contaminants such as iron, chromium, and nickel that can be adsorbed by a magnetic rod with a magnetic induction intensity of no less than 0.5 T. Residual alkali exists on the material surface in the form of lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate. For residual alkali detection, an automatic potentiometric titrator equipped with a pH electrode must be used. The content is precisely calculated by titrating with a hydrochloric acid standard solution and recording the two equivalence points at approximately pH 8.5 and pH 4.5. For magnetic impurity determination, a magnetic rod is used for adsorption, followed by elemental analysis using an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). These precise testing methods provide essential support for ensuring the stability of battery slurries, preventing battery swelling, and enhancing safety performance.
