Brix RefractoMeter

The sugar refractometer determines sugar concentration by measuring the refractive index of a liquid. Light passing through the sample is refracted, and the instrument detects the angle of refraction to calculate the sugar content. It is used for sugar testing in foods such as juices, beverages, and sauces, as well as for monitoring solution concentrations in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Selection
When selecting a refractometer, consider matching the measurement range to the sugar content of the sample, commonly 0-90% Brix. Pay attention to the automatic temperature compensation function to adapt to environmental changes. Handheld models are convenient for on-site testing, while benchtop models offer higher accuracy. Check the calibration method; some models allow quick calibration with distilled water. Note the sample volume requirement, as micro-volume models are suitable for precious samples.
