ASTM Standard Zahn Viscosity Cup

ASTM standard Zahn viscosity cups calculate viscosity by measuring the time it takes for a fluid to completely flow out through a small hole at the bottom of the cup. After immersing the cup into the sample, it is lifted vertically, and the drainage time is recorded; the longer the time, the higher the viscosity. It is used for rapid on-site testing of fluids such as coatings and inks, in compliance with the ASTM D4212 specification.
Selection
When selecting, ensure that the viscosity range of the fluid being tested matches the cup number. Cup No. 1 is suitable for low-viscosity fluids such as thin paint, while Cup No. 5 is used for high-viscosity fluids like adhesives. Consider the fluid characteristics; for fluids containing particles, choose a cup with a larger orifice. Verify the cup volume and orifice size according to ASTM standards, and ensure the stainless steel material provides corrosion resistance.
