The digital magnetic particle flaw detector works by magnetizing the surface of a workpiece and applying a magnetic particle suspension. Under the influence of the magnetic field, leakage fields are generated at defect locations, which attract magnetic particles to form visible indications. It is used to detect surface and near-surface defects such as cracks in ferromagnetic materials and is commonly employed in the inspection of welded components, castings, and forgings.
